Quelques réflexions autour de l’architecture et l’urbanisme de Lubumbashi & À chacun sa maison? “Outsourcing” de la crise du logement au Congo à la fin de l’époque coloniale

During this talk, which was a guest lecture in a1sth Bachelor course a the Faculty of Architecture of the Université de Lubumbashi, given at the invitation of Patrick Mudekereza, we presented first a survey of the research that we have been doing on the architectural and urban history of (mainly) colonial Lubumbashi since 2000, and, second, the ongoing research on the self-built housing schemes of the post-war period in late colonial Lubumbashi, the results of which still can be seen in neighbourhoods like Kenya or Katuba. We interacted with a group of over 200 students, and ended with an engaged discussion on the relevance of this kind of research for those who aspire to become architects in a context where the building sector is highly driven and dominated by actors (real estate agents, developers,…) coming from the outside.
