Construction Cultures in the City
During this research seminar, we trace 'construction cultures' throughout the years, looking into historical processes of circularity through the culture of material reuse and deconstruction in Brussels, the role of diverse actors in the building sector and contemporary examples of place-based construction material hubs. The seminar is organised in connection with the StadsSalonsUrbains Lecture series ‘Rewind FastForward’ and in collaboration with the research group of the project “Re-building Brussels (1695-2025): The construction sector as an engine for social inclusion and circularity”. The seminar includes presentations by (PhD) researchers, exploring questions of material flows, building conversions, circularity, and the spatial embeddedness for these practices. Following, Prof. Howard Davis (University of Oregon, author of “The Culture of Building”) provides insights on the role of trust and craftsmanship in the building sector.
